We Found Our Spot

Mountain Mama - West Virginia.
33 1/2 acres, hundred year old farmhouse, cellar house, free natural gas,
southern slope, a forest and good pasture land all just ten minutes from the freeway
farm house

As soon as we saw this piece of land we loved it.  It has a south facing slope, twenty acres or more of forest and enough flat land to have a good pasture and garden.

farm house garden

From the back of the house.  This was the garden spot.  And is again.  Bill has already planted a fall garden and we have peas, radishes, spinach and more coming up.

free gas and cellar house
Two of the best features - free natural gas from the well on the property, and a cellar house built into the side of the holler.  It has a six foot ceiling.  The upper building is coming down and being rebuilt with R40 walls and R60 roof to become a passive/solar office.
west virginia misty mountain

Mist rising in the early morning from the mountains across the road.  There's a river there too with good fishing.  Bill is heading up with a shovel and bottle of bleach to get the year round spring flowing again.
indian burial mound

To the right of Bill is an old Native American burial mound located on the property.  We believe it is from the Adena period (200 BC to about 1600 AD)
ridge top pasture

Thirty years ago this was pasture on the ridge top.  Perhaps it will be again.  If Bill has his way.  Right now it's raising deer.  We've heard from the locals that some of the best hunting is on our land.

First Try

Second try - if at first you don't succeed

Third time's the charm!  We'll be reusing the half inch exterior and roofing paneling as we rebuild.  We hope to have the old oak planks remilled and use them for the built-in desk and bookcases.
